The Dark Barn Gastropub at Rudford is the perfect destination for a delicious gastro-pub meal, close to Gloucester and Newent.

The newly opened Dark Barn Gastropub at Barbers Bridge, Rudford, on the outskirts of Gloucester is the perfect destination for a delicious gastro-pub meal. Surrounded by beautiful countryside, many local people will know The Dark Barn as a popular Gloucester wedding venue, but the owners Linda Rondeau and Julian Trigg are now also welcoming customers looking for good quality food at reasonable prices.

You don't have to dine at The Dark Barn Gastropub to experience the warm welcome of this new venture. Why not call by for a leisurely coffee or a drink in the fully licensed bar.

Food on a table
This Gloucester gastropub serves freshly cooked food that is sourced locally where possible.

Much of the food at The Dark Barn is locally sourced where possible, and the Head Chef - Emma Cruse, is very helpful. With the food cooked fresh on the premises, she can answer any queries you may have regarding the meals on offer. On our visit for example, she was very happy to ensure that the meal ordered was gluten-free. Vegetarians are also well catered for.

We dropped by on a weekday lunchtime and found the dining-area had a nice atmosphere. There were several couples of various ages enjoying their meals, along with a few people dining on their own. According to Linda and Julian, the gastro-pub is proving particularly popular with customers travelling out from Gloucester, Newent and nearby Highnam.

The Dark Barn Gastropub has a specials menu which is changed regularly in order to take advantage of seasonal produce. We were pleased to see that the menu included a good choice of basket meals with prices starting at £5.

Priced at £7.50, the 'warm chunky chilli served with rice' that we ordered was delicious. We were offered a great choice of homemade desserts and cakes for afters.

The Sunday Lunch menu offers a choice of meats, and is available in either one, two or three courses. Again, there is a good vegetarian option on the menu. Whilst not essential, bookings for Sunday lunch are advisable.

With the adjoining quality guest accommodation available, you could perhaps give The Dark Barn the presently popular title of a 'pub with rooms'. An opportunity to eat, drink and sleep?
